Full 'Jurassic World' trailer delivers the dino goods

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: Apr 20, 2015 11:33 pm

With all the main studios battling it out to 'win' the summer blockbuster season, and with Universal Studios emboldened by their $1B payday for 'Furious 7' they're going in all guns blazing (literally) with their promotion plans for the much anticipated sequel 'Jurassic World' - the first entry in the dinosaur franchise since 2001's 'Jurassic Park III'.

With visual effects provided by Industrial Light and Magic, the dinosaurs of 'Jurassic World' should look more impressive that ever - a far cry from the low res renders from the original classic 'Jurassic Park'.

Starring Chris Pratt from last years sci-fi mega-hit 'Guardians of the Galaxy', 'Jurassic World' hits hits in 3D, 2D and IMAX screens worldwide starting on June 11.

'Fantastic 4' film reboot takes shape in new trailer

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: Apr 20, 2015 1:07 am

Joining a busy summer blockbuster season is a reboot for Marvel and Stan Lee's 'Fantastic Four', which comes just 8 years on from the release of the last film which starred a pre-'Captain America' Chris Evans, Jessica Alba and Ioan Gruffudd. Twentieth Century Fox has now moved to completely reset the franchise, under the watch of 'Chronicle' director Josh Trank.

Even with a huge budget and the full backing of the studio keen to hold onto rare, non-Disney owned Marvel licenses, many fans are slightly on edge at the film's prospects under such a young director, but grow a little more confident with each new trailer. The latest reveals fan-favourite villain Doctor Doom as a leading adversary.

'Fantastic Four' hits screens worldwide in August in 2D and 3D.

'Furious 7' races past $1B at the worldwide box office

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: Apr 18, 2015 11:14 pm

I might have eviscerated it in my recent review, but perhaps unsurprisingly, the latest instalment in the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise has grossed a spectacular $1 billion at the international box office in just 17 days, joining an elite club of 20 such films - and marks a first for Universal Pictures.

While 1993's 'Jurassic Park' grossed over $1 billion in it's combined 1993 and 2013 releases, 'Furious 7' has become the first film to gross that amount in its initial release. Vice-Chairman of NBC Universal Ron Meyer wrote in a blog-post that "I am incredibly proud of the motion picture team at Universal, the cast and filmmakers of the FAST & FURIOUS for all they have done to take our original idea and evolve it into a huge, global, blockbuster franchise."

As a comparison, the first 'The Fast and the Furious' film in 2001 grossed $207 million worldwide. How's that for stock appreciation? It remains to be seen whether June's release of the much-anticipated 'Jurassic World' can top it, and it's predecessor. After some mediocre years for the 103 year old studio, they'll certainly be hoping.

First 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' trailer is here!

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: Apr 17, 2015 11:08 pm

Early this week we got our first tease of Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', but now the studio has released the first look at the 2016 blockbuster in sweet, sweet high definition. So without any further ado...

Pitched not as a sequel to the 2013 Superman reboot 'Man of Steel', 'Batman v Superman' is more of a trojan horse for DC Comics and Warner Bros to introduce the Justice League, in order to better compete with the likes of 'The Avengers' and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' will be released in conventional cinemas, and IMAX screens on March 25th 2016 worldwide.

Ryan Gosling in 'Blade Runner' sequel talks

The sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic 'Blade Runner' seems to be slowly moving towards fruition, with Harrison Ford signed on for "the best thing I've ever read", but now with 'Gangster Squad' heartthrob Ryan Gosling in talks to star.

According to Variety, producers are keen to cast Gosling in the starring role, alongside Harrison Ford, with the film set "several decades" after the original's 2019 dystopian future.

Helmed by French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve and produced by Ridley Scott, 'Blade Runner 2' is expected to go into production next year for a 2017 release, to mark the 35th anniversary of the original.

Sony Pictures email hack database published by WikiLeaks

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: Apr 16, 2015 11:42 pm

Last year's debilitating attack on Sony Pictures by hacking collective 'the Guardians of Peace' which flung the darkest secrets of the studio into the public domain has now been published by WikiLeaks, with 30,287 documents and 173,132 available as a searchable database.

In making the material available, Julian Assange has described the correspondence as "newsworthy and at the centre of a geo-political conflict. It belongs in the public domain. WikiLeaks will ensure it stays there". The press release states that "WikiLeaks' publication of The Sony Archives will ensure this database remains accessible to the public for years to come", and will no doubt continue to embarrass the company well into the future."

Sony Pictures have criticised the move in a statement to the LA Times, saying the company "vehemently disagree with WikiLeaks' assertion that this material belongs in the public domain and will continue to fight for the safety, security, and privacy of our company and its more than 6,000 employees."

'Rockstar Games' adds Bill Paxton as anti GTA lawyer Jack Thompson

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: Apr 16, 2015 5:46 am

Last week we revealed the surprising news that the BBC was working on a telemovie drama based on the 2003 legal wranglings between activist lawyer Jack Thompson and Rockstar Games over the release 'Grand Theft Auto III', with 'Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role. Now it seems they've also found their lawyer.

James Cameron regular and 'Titanic' star Bill Paxton has stepped into the role as Jack Thompson, according to Deadline Hollywood. The eccentric lawyer became the butt of jokes in the gaming community for his increasingly outlandish commentary, which ultimately saw him disbarred in 2008.

The same report confirms that 'Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe has been cast in the role of Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser. The feature is due to start filming later this month.

New Marvel 'Ant-Man' trailer impresses on a small scale

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: Apr 14, 2015 4:22 am

With not one, but two big summer blockbusters on the way, Marvel will be counting the dough from the one-two punch of 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and 'Ant-Man' if the latest trailer for the film is anything to go by.

Starring Paul Rudd as reformed thief turned miniature superhero Scott Lang and Michael Douglas as benefactor Hank Pym, much like last year's 'Guardians of the Galaxy', 'Ant-Man' needs to overcome low awareness for the film to become a huge international success - although the interaction with the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe (and requisite cameos) might just assist, not to mention the incredibly powerful brand recognition of Marvel itself.

'Ant-Man' is released in Australia on July 16th and in the United States on July 17th.

By: Ben Gourlay | More News: Celebrities & Entertainment | Posted: Apr 14, 2015 12:30 am

With so many blockbusters vying for attention this U.S. summer, studios are pulling out all the stops to promote their latest pictures, with eye popping visual effects and the promise of more bang for buck. With all this and more, the latest trailer for 'Terminator: Genisys' has now instantly jumped to my must-see list.

Playing with the timeline established by the original 'Terminator' and 'Terminator 2', 'Genisys' has some shocks in store for audiences when an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline results in a new mission: to reset the future.

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke and Emilia Clark and helmed by 'Thor: The Dark World' director Alan Taylor, 'Terminator: Genisys' hits screens worldwide on July 1st - for the first time in 3D.
